Choosing a vase

How to choose the perfect vase to display your flowers

Chris Wood, Head Florist

Hints and tips from Chris Wood, Head Florist for Waitrose Florist, on how to choose the perfect vase to display and complement your flowers.

Natural elegance A vase which mirrors the natural shape of the flowers is very complementary and adds true elegance and grace to the arrangement

Flowers with a strong and simple shape such as scented lilies, long-stemmed roses and gladioli look stunning displayed on their own or with a few stems of foliage to complement.

Cottage garden charm For flowers that look like they've just been picked from the garden, choose a pale-coloured jug and allow the blooms to billow over the rim.

Soft shapes, pastel colours and billowy petals are characteristics of many flowers grown in a traditional cottage garden, and just the thing to create a bouquet with rustic charm.

Vintage delight Use a selection of vintage glassware and fill with little posies for a fun display on a table, across a mantelpiece or even as wedding favours

Varieties of flowers with petite buds and blooms are perfect for creating darling mini posies - single stems of sweetheart roses and freesias with sprays of buds would be perfect.
